Our Focus
At Thornton Fine Art, we provide a highly curated selection of fine paintings with a focus on British portraits and landscapes from the 16-20th centuries. Our mission is simple: we focus on quality, impeccable provenance and excellent condition. Many of our artworks have documented provenance within celebrated collections and have been exhibited in museums including Tate Britain, the Royal Academy, Kenwood House and the Ashmolean.
Our Expertise
Dan has been collecting and dealing in Fine Art and Antiques for over 25 years - before that he read English Literature where he graduated with a First from Trinity College, Oxford. He has a vivid interest in the rich symbolism and performative aesthetics of the Tudor and Stuart periods running through to the Georgian era. Dan has acquired and sold paintings by leading portrait artists including George Romney, Daniel Mytens, Bernaert de Rijckere, Charles Jervas, Sir William Orpen and Augustus John.
Our Philosophy
We passionately believe that the portrait is the most intimate and engaging subject matter, and our collecting interest naturally gravitates towards the genre. We specialize in what we like, and hope to find our clients artworks that they will connect with and cherish. As my grandfather once said “always buy the best you can‘t afford.”
